ESPN will not be airing Spike Lee’s highly anticipated Colin Kaepernick docuseries.
First announced in 2022, the project was set to tell Kaepernick’s story through his own lens, with Lee directing the series. It promised to give a personal look into Kaepernick’s upbringing, football career, and activism following his kneeling protest during the national anthem.
But according to Variety, the docuseries has been shelved. When asked about it on a red carpet in Beverly Hills, Spike Lee simply said he could not comment, citing a signed nondisclosure agreement.
While no further explanation has been provided, the cancellation leaves fans with questions and disappointment. The collaboration between two outspoken Black public figures had been highly anticipated.
Whether the project will be picked up by another platform remains unknown.
