DeAngelo Williams is a former football star that decided to give back during this month that sheds light on a disease that so many women suffer from. He recently donated thousands of dollars to help women who cannot afford to undergo a mammogram through his non-profit organization, dedicated in honor of his late mother who died of breast cancer.
The DeAngelo Williams Foundation made the announcement via social media which aimed to correct a past TODAY show report circulating on social media.
“Recently, a 2015 article by the Today Show was recirculating about DeAngelo Williams funding free 53 mammograms. Well they updated the article to inform everyone we have sponsored well over 500 mammograms and have no plans of stopping!#53strongforSandra.
The hashtag #53strongforSandra was made in homage to Williams’ mother Sandra Hill who died from the disease in 2014. The former Carolina Panthers player also lost four aunts to breast cancer all before the age of 50.
During their initial effort the foundation made a point to cover 53 exams for women in cities where Williams played professionally, including Pittsburgh, Memphis, Jonesboro and Charlotte. This is a heartwarming and noble effort. Kudos to DeAngelo Williams!
