Lebron James is reportedly producing a series based on the life of famed Madame C.J. Walker, the first Black female millionaire in U.S. history. Spencer reveals that in negotiating her deal with Netflix, Lebron James intervened when it came time to advocate for salary fairness. As this may come as a surprise to some, Spencer further reveals that the exact same situation occurred when she was offered her award winning role in the 2011 hit "The Help". Co-Star Jessica Chastain reportedly advocated for Octavia Spencer to get equal pay in that situation as well. While this seems to be an admirable deed that both men and women co-stars alike feel the need to stand firm in defense of this great actress, Spencer herself states how disturbing it is to have to have someone else stomp their foot in order for her to be paid what she deserves. Spencer told audiences at a Sundance Film Festival panel that her goal is to "make sure that all women of color get equal pay, and that all WOMEN get equal pay."
