On Sunday, July 19th, Presidential hopeful Kanye West held a campaign rally in South Carolina. During the event, he said, “Harriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people.”T.I., who has collaborated with West in the past, took offense to West’s comment.
- The rapper posted a photo of Tubman onInstagramon Monday, July 20th, with the caption, “Nahhhh WE Can't let you do that Ye'.... What WE NOT gon do is slander nor disrespect the legacy of our heroic Queen Harriet Tubman by telling falsities in an attempt to discredit the contributions she made to LIBERATE OUR PEOPLE‼️ Cuzz U BUGGIN‼️ THIS IS ABSOLUTELY TOO FAR‼️ I truly hope you either have a logical explanation for all this... or get the medical attention you so desperately need Bro. I say this with love and sincerity.”
- West’s campaign event failed to help him garner the 10,000 signatures necessary to make the November ballot in South Carolina.
