Utah Passes Bill That Makes It Legal To Have Sex Outside Of Marriage

The Utah House of Representatives passed a bill that would end a decades-old prohibition against having sex outside of marriage. The bill previously passed the state Senate and is now headed to the desk of Governor Gary Herbert.

The measure comes as legislators are trying to clean up the state's criminal code by removing laws that have become unenforceable. Legislators recently passed a bill that made adultery and sodomy between consenting adults legal.

Not everybody is in favor of the bill, with 32 lawmakers voting against the legislation.

“What is legally is often far below what is morally right,” state Republican Rep. Kevin Stratton, told Fox13. “And I recognize our laws are not strong enough to rule an immoral people.”
